Condensation on the inside of a window or sliding glass door indicates that the humidity level inside the room is higher inside than outside and that the air exchange in the room is too low. Excess moisture on the inside of a window blocks your view and can lead to mold and mildew below and around the window or glass door. Below are some easy steps to reduce the risk of excess condensation.
- Clean the exterior bottom rails of your windows and sliding glass patio doors to remove any dirt or debris. You can use a soft bottlebrush to clear openings, if necessary.
- Make sure you haven’t blocked the weep holes in your windows and sliding glass doors.
- Use exhaust fans regularly in rooms with high humidity (bathrooms, kitchens laundry rooms and pool rooms, etc.)
- Use a ceiling fan to continuously circulate air.
- Use dehumidifiers to reduce the amount of moisture inside homes with humidity problems.
- Open windows and doors when practical to reduce excessive moisture inside a home.
- Keep shades at least a few inches above the window sill so that air and heat can circulate around the window.
