Was your home damaged during the January polar vortex deep freeze? You are not alone. Some of the tried-and-true precautions people have taken for years didn’t prevent pipes from freezing this year. You made the emergency repairs to wet areas, drying and removing material, and notified the insurance company. Now, it’s time to get your home put back together. We know how important it is for your peace of mind, and we can address your needs as quickly as possible.
Once we review the frozen pipe damage, we can suggest the best way to repair everything and make changes to help you avoid issues the next time the weather changes.
We will work with you to handle everything, from additional damaged material removal, framing, insulation, drywall, painting, refinishing hardwood floors, replacing all types of floor coverings, and new trim.
Avoiding Frozen Pipes Options
Upgrade the insulation while the wall is open
Add shut-off valves back into the heated area where hose bibs may freeze in unheated garage walls
Add a heated wire to the pipe in a susceptible area
Open your sink cabinets a couple of inches by putting a towel on the door
Close the garage door
Don’t turn your thermostat down at night or when you are away
In an extreme case, if the power is out for days, you could turn the water off to the house and open the lines. Then, when you return home, you can get the water back on.
Other solutions not mentioned above may fit your unique situation, and we would be happy to discuss them when you call.
As a contractor we are proud of our work, and we think you will agree.
