Longtime client Carole has enjoyed her view of the lake from her deck for years. As she sat there looking at the water, she often wondered how nice it would be if the deck were slightly narrower so that she could have an unobstructed view without the pesky railing getting in the way. Although these were just hopes and dreams at one point, it was clear Mother Nature was listening when she “gifted” Carole with a bomb cyclone that tore apart most of her deck last November. Carole was temporarily upset by the damage, but she quickly saw an opportunity to turn some lemons into lemonade. The solution was to call in Shirey Home Pro, her Personal Home Contractor!
After some phone calls, site visits, and highly technical drawings that can be seen below (we like to have fun), Shirey and Carole devised a game plan for her to get the view she wanted. We replaced the existing framing and deck boards to prepare for the installation of a beautiful, new composite decking. Because of its striking appearance and long-lasting durability, we chose to install TimberTech Advanced PVC decking in the Brownstone color rather than natural wood. Shirey has been installing composite decking for years and has yet to see any damage to the boards.
Edgar, our lead tech on the project, collaborated with Carole to determine the right size for her deck to get the best view. We shifted the deck a few feet closer to Carole’s house and installed a black aluminum cable railing system to enhance the view.
End of project, right? Wrong! This deck needed some corbels. Carole showed us a photo of a snazzy, decorative corbel she had seen on another property and told us to get to work on matching. After some time and thought, we were able to produce eight beautiful, custom-made corbels to install on all five posts. Our techs love to get creative and are always up for a challenge!
Now that the corbels are in place, the new deck is finished. Carole can now enjoy watching the action on the Lake without any obstruction. She is pleased with her deck, and we’re proud to have helped find the right solution. Here are some photos so that you can also enjoy the view.
As a contractor we are proud of our work, and we think you will agree.
