Thankfully our Clients called us before the rot had traveled too far into the cantilevered framing or this project would have become more serious. The majority of the rot was on the rim joist which we replaced with treated lumber and cedar fascia. We removed the rot from the other joist. Then treated and sistered on new treated lumber where needed. We used treated 4x4 lumber on the railing posts. The new railing is all primed cedar. You can always tell primed cedar (gray) from other primed wood because other wood is primed white rather than gray. The new decking is cedar which is good, but we regret not begin able to convince them that PVC decking would have been a better choice for longevity and maintenance. The updated deck style is also more inviting.
