Once upon a time, there lived a man named Glen. Glen lived in a beautiful Bellevue home—a regular-shaped home, not a shoe-shaped one. He lived peacefully for ages until one night, when clinks and clanks from the roof awakened him. Glen feared the worst – he feared Christmas critters took up occupancy in his chimney while resting between seasons. After calling Shirey Home Pro, Edgar came out to assess the situation. It was confirmed – RACCOONS! And rot!

Edgar’s first day on the job had him standing face-to-face with the cute, cuddly Christmas critters. They eyed each other, back and forth, until Edgar heard a hiss. Needless to say, Edgar and Glen agreed it would be better to come out another day after the raccoons had left. Shirey Home Pro is many things, but we would rather not be involved in pest control. Once the raccoons were cleared, Edgar was able to demo the chimney siding and rebuild it. The critters were evicted, and Glen now has a fresh, new chimney and is relieved that the beasts are gone, and so is the dry rot. It’s essential to check your chimney and roof at least once a year.

After cleaning up the debris, Edgar noticed that some of the house's siding was showing wear and possible dry rot, so he decided to investigate. What he found was even more terrifying than the vermin in the chimney – the dreaded SKYWALL!

Skywalls are a window system that includes overhead glass and a window. They look great but are prone to leaks/failure. This can be caused by age, improper installation, improper maintenance, extreme weather events, or a combination of these factors. This can be a costly fix. In Glen’s case, the skywall leaks would require a new window, siding, drywall, and painting in the dining area. When demoing the siding, we happened to find even more Christmas critters! This time, they were less cute and didn’t give warning hisses —just stings. Edgar was stung by hornets. It was decided it would be better to wait for exterminators (and for Edgar to heal).
