Frequently Asked Remodeling Questions

Your Remodeling questions answered

Getting Started

As your Personal Contractor, we strive to provide you with as much information as possible to help you understand the remodeling/renovation process and make informed decisions. Below are some of the most common questions we receive about remodeling, along with our answers. If you have any additional questions, we’re here to answer them.

How do I get started with my remodeling project?

Getting started is easy. The first step is a brief phone call and an email exchange to gather preliminary information about your project and answer any initial questions you may have.

From there, we'll schedule an in-person consultation with all project decision-makers. This meeting can take place at your home or in our office, depending on your preference. During this time, we'll learn more about your goals, discuss ideas and possibilities, evaluate the space, and help you understand the options available for your project.

Our goal is to provide clarity, guidance, and expert insight so you can confidently move forward with the remodeling process.

What types of projects do you handle?

We specialize in residential remodeling and home improvement projects, including:

  • Kitchens
  • Bathrooms
  • Home additions
  • Garage conversions
  • Aging-in-place modifications
  • Decks and outdoor living spaces
  • Whole-home remodels
  • General home repairs and improvements

Many of our clients start with a single project and continue working with us for years as their homes and needs evolve.

Why should I hire a remodeling contractor instead of managing the project myself?

A remodeling project involves much more than construction. Permits, scheduling, inspections, subcontractor coordination, materials, building codes, and problem-solving must all come together at the right time.

An experienced contractor helps prevent costly mistakes, manages the details, and provides accountability throughout the project so you can focus on the outcome rather than the process.

About Shirey Home Pro

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We are fully licensed, bonded, and insured. We also require the same standards from the subcontractors and trade partners we work with. Protecting your home and your investment is a responsibility we take seriously.

Do you have references?

Yes.  In fact, we encourage it.

Many of our new clients come from referrals and repeat customers. We are happy to connect you with homeowners who can share their experiences working with our team.

What makes Shirey Home Pro different?

We believe remodeling is about relationships as much as it is about construction.

Our goal isn't simply to complete a project and move on. We want to become your trusted resource for your home—someone you can call whether you're planning a major remodel, dealing with an unexpected repair, or simply looking for advice.

We call this being your "Personal Contractor for Life."

That means earning trust through honest communication, quality workmanship, and showing up when we say we will.

Planning & Budget

How much will my remodel cost?

Every home and project is different, so there is no reliable "average price" that applies to everyone.

The final cost depends on factors such as:

  • Project size and scope
  • Material selections
  • Existing conditions of the home
  • Structural requirements
  • Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC modifications
  • Permit requirements
  • Design complexity

Following our initial meeting, we'll provide a preliminary construction budget range based on your goals and project scope. We'll then review our Design & Feasibility Agreement, which guides the planning process and allows us to develop a detailed proposal. This ensures you have a clear understanding of the project scope, specifications, and investment before making any construction decisions.

Can you work within my budget?

Yes.

One of our jobs is helping you prioritize where to invest your remodeling dollars. If budget is a concern, we'll discuss options and help you make decisions that maximize value without sacrificing quality.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. Deposits help secure your project schedule and cover initial planning and material expenses. Payment schedules are clearly outlined in your agreement before work begins.

Will your estimate be the lowest?

Probably not.

We focus on delivering long-term value, quality craftsmanship, and a professional remodeling experience. While we work hard to remain competitive, we don't cut corners to become the lowest bidder.

Remodeling Process

Will my project require permits?

Many projects do.
Permits are typically required when structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, or square-footage changes are involved. As your contractor, we'll determine which permits are required and handle the permitting process for you.

Who will be working in my home?

You'll have a dedicated project lead and access to our team throughout the project.

Depending on the scope of work, we may also coordinate trusted trade professionals for specialized work such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and roofing. Everyone working on your project is expected to meet our standards for professionalism, quality, and respect for your home.

Who supervises the project?

You won't be left wondering who is in charge.

We provide clear points of contact and maintain communication throughout the project, so you always know who to call with questions or concerns.

How long will my project take?

Every project is unique, but we'll provide an estimated timeline before work begins.

As construction progresses, we'll keep you informed about scheduling, milestones, and any changes that may affect completion dates.

What about the mess?

Construction is messy by nature, but we take steps to minimize disruption.

Our team works hard to protect your home by:

  • Using floor and surface protection
  • Containing dust whenever possible
  • Maintaining safe work areas
  • Cleaning job sites regularly
  • Performing a final cleanup at project completion

Respecting your home is part of the job.

What should I do during the project?

Ask questions.

Seriously.

If something doesn't look right, if you're unsure about a detail, or if you simply want clarification, speak up. We would rather answer questions early than allow confusion or frustration to build.

Good communication creates better projects.

What happens if unexpected issues are discovered?

Older homes sometimes reveal surprises once walls are opened or demolition begins.

If we discover hidden damage, outdated wiring, structural concerns, or other unforeseen conditions, we'll stop, document the issue, explain your options, and discuss costs before moving forward.

No surprises. No unauthorized work.

Kitchen Remodeling

What's included in a kitchen remodel?

Every kitchen is different, but projects often include:

  • Cabinet installation or refinishing
  • Countertops
  • Flooring
  • Lighting upgrades
  • Appliance installation
  • Tile backsplashes
  • Plumbing and electrical improvements
  • Layout modifications

We'll customize the scope to fit your goals, lifestyle, and budget.

Can you do a partial kitchen remodel?

Yes.

Sometimes replacing cabinets, countertops, fixtures, or flooring provides exactly the refresh a homeowner is looking for without the cost of a complete renovation.

Bathroom Remodeling

Can you convert a bathtub into a walk-in shower?

Yes. Tub-to-shower conversions are one of the most popular upgrades we perform.
We handle everything from demolition and waterproofing to tile installation and fixture replacement.

Do you coordinate plumbing and electrical work?

Yes.

We manage all necessary trades and ensure that work is completed in accordance with current building codes and industry best practices.

Home Additions & Major Remodels

Can you help with the design?

Yes.

We can assist with planning and design, or collaborate with your designer, architect, or engineer if you already have one involved.

Can you add a second story or major addition?

In many cases, yes.

Projects of this scale require careful planning and structural evaluation. We'll assess your home's existing conditions and help determine the best path forward.

Where do you start with a whole-home remodel?

We start by understanding how you live in your home.

From there, we develop a plan that balances design goals, budget, construction logistics, and timeline. Our objective is to create a process that feels organized and manageable from beginning to end.

After the Project

Do you warranty your work?

Yes.
We stand behind our workmanship and provide warranty coverage for qualifying work. We'll review warranty details with you before project completion.

What if I'm not satisfied with something?

We want to know.

Our goal is to build long-term relationships, not simply complete transactions. If something isn't right, contact us, and we'll work with you to address the concern.

Do you work with past clients after the project is finished?

Absolutely.

Many of our clients call us years after their first project for maintenance, repairs, additional remodels, or simply advice about their home.

That's exactly the kind of relationship we're trying to build. We want to be the first call you make whenever your home needs attention.

As a contractor we are proud of our work, and we think you will agree.
