This year, Shirey Home Pro had the honor of building a ramp for Alex and his family. Alex's story began at the age of 18 when he was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma Cancer. As a result of the cancer, he underwent an artificial femur replacement surgery, which was the first of many surgeries over a ten-year period to address irregular bone spur growth. In 2010, he had a knee disarticulation due to increasing pain and decreasing flexibility in his knee. At 38 years old, he now has a ramp to help him access his home and the outside world using his prosthetic leg, crutches, or a wheelchair. The new ramp was exciting not only for Alex but also for his fiancée, who has her own knee issues and uses a cane. Alex's mother may also benefit from the ramp in the future.
Shirey Home Pro has been involved with the Rampathon Project since its inception in 1993.
This is Jon's 21st ramp and years working with Rampathon. " It’s a great team-building event for the Shirey team where my Lead Carpenters and Office Staff work side by side and build a greater bond. The greatest joy is to have the Ramp Recipient come down the ramp for the first time. Their look of amazement at the quality of craftsmanship and sturdiness of construction that then turns to appreciation and joyful tears make it worth the planning and sweat that went into the project,” remarked Jon.
As a contractor we are proud of our work, and we think you will agree.
