From Country To Classy

After recently retiring and spending more time at home, Mercer Island resident, Kathy, was ready to say goodbye to her home’s country kitchen and outdated rooms of 15 years. She was ready to enjoy a reinvigorated kitchen and interior update!

Starting in the kitchen, we replaced the island with a custom-built island to match the perimeter cabinets’ style and we added a new beverage center near the kitchen’s entryway. The new, stunning, maple countertop on the island immediately grabs your attention and the new, quartz countertop and a subway tile backsplash of the surrounding cabinets provides the perfect complement. In addition, there is now herringbone accent tiling located over the range and new plumbing with stainless steel sinks and matching faucets nearby. After some reconfiguration, the existing cabinets received a fresh coat of paint and new hardware to complete the kitchen upgrade.

The nearby powder room received a complete remodel. This involved a new, white oak vanity and a taupe tile backsplash. Then it was out with the old, black toilet and sink, and in with the new, white set to brighten up the room. Phillip Jefferies wallpaper was installed on all the walls, and new bathroom accessories were strategically added. Across from the powder room, the laundry room was enlivened with new tile floor, countertops, and cabinetry.

We refinished the hardwood floors throughout the main floor to a dark espresso tone. This instantly updated the home’s feel for a fresher look. In the living room, the fireplace and mantel were replaced with travertine tiles. The whole fireplace wall was given beautiful molding and paneling, creating an elegant statement from a simple, nondescript area. The built-in cabinets received an installation of beautiful, new wallpaper in the back panels. A fresh coat of paint was completed throughout the first level. The stairway was modernized with freshly stained steps, a new handrail, a new carpet runner, and painted balusters. The wainscoting, which extends into the entryway, was updated with a new front door and hardware.

Upstairs, almost every room received a coat of paint and all new carpet. Our client is now ready to enjoy her retirement and her entire “new” home!

This remodel was a fantastic opportunity for Shirey Home Pro to work with a wonderful client. As with all remodels, decisions needed to be made quickly, changed, and sometimes changed again. Our client remained adaptive and collaborative throughout the process, and the designer, Selena from Fitch Design Company, was always on hand to help make crucial decisions.
